Panjab University notifies public holidays
Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has notified the public holidays in its administrative offices, university teaching/non-teaching departments and affiliated colleges for the calendar year 2026.
Chandigarh, January 6, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has notified the public holidays in its administrative offices, university teaching/non-teaching departments and affiliated colleges for the calendar year 2026.
The PU holidays include Republic Day (January 26), Birthday of Sri Guru Ravi Dass (February 1), Maha Shivratri (February 15), Holi (March 4), Id-ul-Fitr (March 21), Shahidi Divas of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji (March 23), Ram Navami (March 26), Mahavir Jayanti (March 31), Good Friday (April 3), Vaisakhi (April 14), Birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar (April 14), Parshuram Jayanti (April 19), Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) (May 27), Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji (June 18), Independence Day (August 15), Janam Ashtami (September 4), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Maharaj Agrasain Jayanti (October 11), Dussehra (October 19 and 20), Birthday of Maharishi Valmiki Ji (October 26), Diwali (November 8 and 9), Birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji (November 24), Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji (December 14), Christmas Day (December 25) and Shaheedi Sabha, Shri Fatehgarh Sahib (December 28).
All Saturdays and all Sundays will be holidays in PU offices and departments. However, only Sundays will be holidays in affiliated colleges of Panjab University.
The teaching departments, including non-teaching staff, and administrative offices of the University will open at 11.00 am instead of 9.00 am on account of Raksha Bandhan and Bhai Dooj, as and when these occasions fall.
Women employees of the University, who observe Karva Chauth, as and when this falls, are allowed to leave the office at 2.00 pm under intimation to the respective Chairperson/Head of the Department/Branch/Office.
PU employees working in the teaching departments or administrative offices, who wish to participate in religious processions or Nagar Kirtans to be taken out in the city on the eve of various religious occasions, may join the procession after obtaining a half-day restricted holiday (second half) for this purpose.
