Panjab University Invites Applications for Punjabi Studies Programmes for Academic Session 2026-27
Chandigarh, June 4, 2026: Panjab University (PU) has invited applications for admission to postgraduate, research and diploma programmes offered by the School of Punjabi Studies for the academic session 2026-27.
According to a press release issued by PU, Chandigarh on Thursday, admissions are open to M.A. Punjabi (With Research), M.A. Punjabi (Without Research), Diploma in Translation (English to Punjabi) and Ph.D. Under Shiv Kumar Batalvi Chair. Admissions to M.A. Punjabi and Diploma in Translation will be based on merit in the qualifying examination as per PU rules and regulations.
The School of Punjabi Studies is offering 68 seats in M.A. Punjabi along with 7 NRI seats and 3 seats for Foreign Nationals. M.A. Punjabi (With Research), introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework, has an intake of 25 seats. The Diploma in Translation (English to Punjabi) offers 11 seats in addition with one NRI seat and one Foreign National seat, while admissions to the Ph.D. programme will be conducted as per PU regulations.
Candidates seeking admission to M.A. Punjabi are required to have a Bachelor's degree with Punjabi as a subject or under the eligibility conditions prescribed by the University. Admission to the Diploma in Translation programme requires a Bachelor's degree with the prescribed minimum marks, while Ph.D. admissions will be governed by University norms.
Graduates from the department can pursue careers in teaching, research, translation, publishing, journalism, media, civil services, cultural organisations and related fields. The School also offers Post-Matric Scholarships to eligible SC/ST students in accordance with PU norms.
Established at Amritsar in 1948-49 and shifted to Chandigarh in 1958, the School of Punjabi Studies is among the oldest centres dedicated to the study and research of Punjabi language, literature, culture, folklore, linguistics and translation studies. Over the past seven decades, it has contributed significantly to teaching, research, publications, seminars and literary activities related to Punjabi studies.
