Panjab University Indian Theatre Department Welcomes New Students with Induction Programme

Chandigarh, August 25, 2026: The Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized the inaugural day of its Induction Program, for the newly admitted students, marking the beginning of their academic and creative journey in theatre.
The program featured an engaging interaction with Prof. Sunita Dhir, former Head, Department of Theatre and Television, Punjabi University, Patiala. An accomplished theatre personality and alumna of Department of Indian Theatre, Prof. Dhir interacted with the students and shared her experiences and insights, inspiring them to approach theatre with commitment, curiosity and a deeper understanding of the art form.
Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Chairperson, Department of Indian Theatre, said, “Our Induction Program is an invitation to our new students to discover theatre, discover themselves and become part of a vibrant creative community. We welcome them with immense warmth and hope.”
A special moment of the program was the felicitation of Nayeem Raj and Shinchi, international students of the Department of Indian Theatre, for their outstanding academic achievement. For the first time in the history of Panjab University, international students secured the First and Third positions in the University, both from the Department of Indian Theatre. Their achievement was acknowledged as a proud moment for the Department and an inspiration for the new batch.
The newly admitted students and their parents were warmly welcomed to the program and introduced to the Department, its faculty, academic environment and senior students. As part of the inaugural Jyoti Ceremony, the ceremonial lamp was lit by the distinguished guests along with the parents of the new students, symbolizing the beginning of a new academic and creative journey. The parents also had an opportunity to interact with the faculty and guests, understand the learning environment and opportunities offered by the Department, and share their thoughts with the gathering, making the interaction a warm and meaningful part of the program.
The participation of the second-year students added warmth and a sense of community to the program, enabling the new students to connect with their seniors and become familiar with the vibrant culture of the Department.
