Panjab University hosts workshop on ITEP curriculum framework
A one day workshop on “Curriculum Framework for ITEP: Vision, Innovation and Implementation” was organised to discuss the vision, structure and implementation of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP). The workshop aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the new curriculum framework and the credit-based system in teacher education.
Chandigarh, March 6, 2026: A one day workshop on “Curriculum Framework for ITEP: Vision, Innovation and Implementation” was organised to discuss the vision, structure and implementation of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP). The workshop aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the new curriculum framework and the credit-based system in teacher education.
The programme began with the ceremonial lamp lighting by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Panjab University and the Chairperson, Dr. Amritpal Kaur, IETVE, symbolising the beginning of knowledge and enlightenment. After this, Amritpal Kaur facilitated the Dean, Faculty of Education with a token of respect.
The Dean, Faculty of Education Prof. Gurmit Singh from Department of Physical Education, addressed the gathering and appreciated the enthusiasm and participation of B.Ed. students. The Dean also encouraged students to actively engage with the changing structure of teacher education and highlighted the importance of innovative and integrated learning approaches in the ITEP programme.
Technical Session–1 was delivered by the keynote speaker, Dr. Sunita Singh from Ambedkar University, Delhi. She spoke on the theme “Credit Based Structure and Subject Integration in ITEP.” She explained that the credit-based structure provides flexibility in learning and supports interdisciplinary learning. She also emphasised the importance of subject integration to develop a holistic understanding and professional competence among future teachers.
After a short tea break, Technical Session–2 was conducted online by Professor Vandana Saxena from CIE, Delhi University. She focused on the credit structure of ITEP courses and explained the distribution of major and minor credits in the programme. She also discussed the overall 176 credit framework of the ITEP curriculum and interacted with faculty members and participants, which led to an informative discussion regarding the implementation of the programme.
Technical Session–3 began with the facilitation of Prof. Vandana Punia from Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar. In her session, she discussed how students can adopt major and minor subjects under the ITEP programme and how these combinations help students in shaping their academic and professional careers. She also explained the academic pathway for students, such as becoming TGT and PGT teachers, and pursuing higher studies including Ph.D. The session was followed by an engaging discussion where participants asked questions and gained clarity about subject selection and career opportunities in teacher education.
The last Technical Session–4 was conducted online by Prof. Nivedita from Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa. She discussed the curriculum structure and credit distribution in the ITEP programme and interacted with the faculty members regarding the implementation and academic planning of the courses.
At the end of the workshop, certificates were distributed by Prof. Vandana Punia and the Chairperson, Department of IETVE, Amritpal Kaur.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Amritpal Kaur, who expressed gratitude to all the speakers, faculty members and participants for making the workshop successful.
