Panjab University Hosts Special Lecture on Plagiarism in Indian Knowledge System
The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised a special lecture in Lecture Hall–1. The lecture was delivered by Dr Satwinder Pal Kaur from the Department of Library and Information Science, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The theme of the lecture was “Plagiarism: An Academic Evil and the Indian Knowledge System.”
Chandigarh, March 13, 2026: The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised a special lecture in Lecture Hall–1. The lecture was delivered by Dr Satwinder Pal Kaur from the Department of Library and Information Science, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The theme of the lecture was “Plagiarism: An Academic Evil and the Indian Knowledge System.”
The programme began with a brief introduction by Dr Khushpreet Singh Brar, Chairperson, who warmly welcomed the resource person, faculty members, research scholars and students. The lecture focused on the growing concern of plagiarism in academic and research environments. Dr Kaur explained the meaning, types and consequences of plagiarism and emphasised the importance of maintaining academic integrity in scholarly work. She highlighted how plagiarism undermines originality, intellectual honesty and the credibility of research. She also discussed various plagiarism detection tools and strategies that researchers and students can adopt to ensure ethical writing practices.
In addition, Dr Kaur elaborated on the relevance of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) and its contribution to preserving traditional knowledge and ethical values in education and research. She emphasised that integrating traditional knowledge with modern academic practices can promote responsible scholarship and cultural awareness.
The lecture proved to be highly informative and engaging for faculty members, research scholars and students. It enhanced participants’ understanding of ethical research practices and encouraged them to uphold originality and academic honesty in their work. The session concluded with an interactive discussion in which participants raised questions and shared their perspectives on plagiarism and research ethics.
