Panjab University Hosts International Symposium on Cutting-Edge Nanopore Sensing Technologies
The Society for Biological Engineering (SBE), UIET, Panjab University, in collaboration with the AICTE–IDEA Lab, organised an MHRD–SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration) sponsored International Symposium on “Nanopore Techniques for Single-Molecule Sensing — From DNA Sequencing to Protein Analysis.”
Chandigarh, November 22, 2025: The Society for Biological Engineering (SBE), UIET, Panjab University, in collaboration with the AICTE–IDEA Lab, organised an MHRD–SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration) sponsored International Symposium on “Nanopore Techniques for Single-Molecule Sensing — From DNA Sequencing to Protein Analysis.”
SPARC aims to strengthen research ecosystems across Indian higher education institutions by supporting collaborations with leading global universities and enabling joint international research projects.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr Cuifeng Ying from the Department of Engineering, Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom.
Dr Ying presented recent research progress from her group, addressing major challenges in DNA and protein sensing. She demonstrated that solid-state nanopores can distinguish between 20-nucleotide single-stranded DNA homopolymers poly(dA)₂₀, poly(dC)₂₀ and poly(dT)₂₀ based on differences in ionic current signatures. She noted that protein analysis through nanopores remains complex due to considerable variation in protein size, structure and charge. Her research focuses on nanopore fabrication improvements, advanced data analysis, and surface functionalisation approaches to enable reliable protein fingerprinting.
Earlier, the conference opened with a welcome address by Prof. Sukhwinder Singh, Director, UIET, Panjab University.
The symposium brought together researchers, faculty and students to discuss developments in nanopore technology and its expanding applications in diagnostics, biotechnology and next-generation biosensing.
Programme Coordinators Dr Gaurav Sapra, Prof Rajesh Madan, Dr Ankur Gupta and Dr Mary Chatterjee thanked the speaker and participants for their contribution to a productive and insightful event.
