Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrates International Yoga Day 2026 with great enthusiasm
Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 with zeal and enthusiasm at the Gymnasium Hall, PU campus.
Chandigarh, June 21, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 with zeal and enthusiasm at the Gymnasium Hall, PU campus.
The event was organised by the Directorate of Sports, Office of Dean Student Welfare, PU National Service Scheme, Dean Alumni Relations, Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies, PU.
The programme was held under the guidance and leadership of PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig, who graced the occasion as the Chief Patron.
The theme of this year’s celebration, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighted the importance of yoga as a holistic practice that nurtures physical strength, mental peace, emotional balance, and overall wellness.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of 500 individuals from PU officials, faculty members, staff, students, NSS volunteers, Programme Officers, wardens, sports personnel, SAI coaches, their teams, and family members. Participants actively performed various yoga practices.
The dignitaries present included senior university officials, including the Director, Research and Development, Prof. Savita Gupta; Controller of Examinations, Prof. Jagat Bhushan; Director Sports, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Malik; DSW, Prof. Yogesh Rawal; DSW (Women), Prof. Namita Gupta; ADSW Prof. Kashmir Singh; PU NSS Coordinator Dr. Anupam Bahri; Dean Alumni Prof. Latika, Prof. Shivani Sharma and other administrative officers.
A special attraction of the event was the live participation in the National International Yoga Day programme, where participants joined the initiative “Join Narendra Modi – Live as One” and watched the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address.
Earlier, the event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Namita Gupta. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by NSS Coordinator, PU, Dr. Anupam Bahri, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, senior officers, organising departments, faculty members, staff, volunteers, participants, and all contributors whose collective efforts made the celebration a success.
