Panjab University brings 15 NGOs together ahead of National Conference on “Technologies for persons with disabilities”

Chandigarh, October 16, 2026: Panjab University turned the spotlight on the everyday struggles of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) as it hosted an NGO Consultation Meet on this Friday. The meet brought 15 NGOs from the Chandigarh region to identify the challenges, unmet needs and technological gaps that continue to hold back the community. The meet was organised by the university’s Equal Opportunity Cell for Persons with Disabilities (EOC-PwDs) and DST-Technology Enabling Centre (DST-TEC). It was held in collaboration with the Chandigarh Institute for Transformation (CIT), NITI Aayog, Chandigarh Administration. Representatives of the participating organisations put their concerns and suggestions directly before the Chandigarh Administration.
Addressing the gathering were M.S. Kang of the CIT, NITI Aayog, Chandigarh Administration, Prof. Manu Sharma, Coordinator, DST-TEC, and Prof. Ramesh Kataria, Coordinator, EOC-PwDs. The speakers stressed the need to bridge the gap between the challenges faced by PwDs and the technologies meant to address them which are practical, accessible and ready for the market. To fill these gaps, submissions for assistive technologies are being invited from industry, academia, research and development institutes and startups. Selected technologies will be presented at the National Conference on “Technologies for Persons with Disabilities” on December 3, 2026 to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The conference is expected to open up direct-to-consumer sales, bulk orders and technology transfer, while bringing PwDs, NGOs, government officials, scientists, industry and distributors onto one platform.
