MDU students pledge plastic-free campus, push for waste management

Rohtak, October 16, 2026: Students at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) shared ideas on campus cleanliness and took a pledge to create a plastic-free environment during a cleanliness dialogue organised on Friday.

The programme was jointly organised by the offices of the Dean of Students’ Welfare, University Outreach and UTD NSS units, with speakers stressing the need to make cleanliness a daily habit rather than limiting it to campaigns.

MDU Registrar Prof Sandeep Bansal called for better waste management and reuse of discarded materials to promote the concept of ‘waste to wealth’. He said cleanliness must become an integral part of everyday life, citing efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini to promote public awareness.

Dean Academic Affairs Prof Randeep Rana urged students to take responsibility for keeping their homes, classrooms and university campus clean. Segregating waste, reducing plastic use and making better use of resources were small but effective steps towards a cleaner society, he said.

Ravinder Jaglan, vice-chairman of Swachh Bharat Mission, Haryana, highlighted the link between cleanliness and public health. He appealed to people to shun single-use plastic and stressed collective participation in building a clean and prosperous Haryana.

Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Sapna Garg delivered the welcome address, while University Outreach director Prof Anju Dhiman proposed the vote of thanks. Faculty members, NSS programme officers, students and volunteers attended the event.
