Panel Discussion on “Is India Becoming Less Liberal” held at Doaba College

Jalandhar, November 25, 2021: PG department of Journalism and Mass Communication  of Doaba College, Jalandhar organized a Panel Discussion on Is India Becoming Less Liberal. Sh. Chander Mohan, President-Arya Shiksha Mandal and College Managing Committee,  Sh.Suresh Seth-Renowned Critic, Author and Poet , Arundeep-Chief Sub Editor, Punjabi Jagran graced the occasion as panelists. The dignitaries were accorded a hearty welcome by Principal  Dr.Pardeep Bhandari , Dr. Simran Sidhu-Head, Faculty and 85 students.  Student Rashi Rashi Rawal acted as moderator.
Chander Mohan said that our constitution talks about composite culture, therefore, inclusiveness and criticism are integral to democracy. He stressed upon the fact that truth is one and ways to reach the same varies. He further added that our nation has always given refuge to the nationals of other countries, including Bangladeshis, Tibetans and Sri Lankans etc. and our country has given  huge acceptance to such  people from all castes, religions and regions. 
Principal, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, talked about  the role of social media. He said in this age where there is plethora of information, need of the hour is to remain aware and make wise decisions in national interest. He also stressed upon giving importance to both sides of any situation. Instead of getting swayed away one must remain aware and decide the right path
Suresh Seth, said that our country has traversed a journey from ‘Maryaada’ to ‘Majhdhaar’. The responsibility lies with the youth when it comes to taking nation to new heights. Even when it comes to media, youth play a vital role in sustenance of free and fair media. This all will  help in keeping the liberal environment in our country alive and intact.
 Arundeep stressed upon the maintenance of social democracy structure of our country, that, according to him can be achieved with the contribution of media as well as opposition. He said that polarization of vote bank on the basis of religion is dangerous and the social democracy needs to be restored at all cost.
Students of BAJMC, MAJMC and BA (Journalism & Mass Communication), had a scintillating discussion with the panelists. They not only presented their views on various aspects related to nationalism, democracy, patriotisms and media ethics in context of liberalism but also asked the questions regarding the same. Students of the department actively participated in the discussion and asked various questions related to the same. 
Stage was conducted by Anjali  and Kalpana . Vote of thanks was presented by Nishtha Mohan. Faculty members,-Prof  Priya Chopra, Prof  Deepak Sharma and Prof  Arshdeep were present during the occasion.
