On the festival of Raksha Bandhan, Rajya Sabha MP donates Rs 2.7 lakh from his salary to sponsor female powerlifter

Ludhiana, August 11, 2022: In a remarkable gesture on occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora on Thursday added more meaning to Rakhi Festival and donated Rs 2.7 lakh from his personal account to sponsor Jivan Lata, a Ludhiana based powerlifter so that she can participate in World Power Lifting Championship at Germany. 

On the recommendations of MLAs Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina and Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, DC Surabhi Malik & MC Commissioner Shena Aggarwal, Arora conveyed best wishes to the player and hoped that Jivan Lata would bring laurels for the state and country. 

A cheque of Rs 2.70 lakh has been paid to Indian Powerlifting Federation by Arora. 

Rajya Sabha MP said that he had already committed to donate salary received from Government as Rajya Sabha MP for philanthropic works during his tenure of six-years.

It is pertinent to mention here that Jivan Lata has been selected under category 67.5 K.G for World Power Lifting Championship going to be held in Berlin, Germany from October 20 to 23, 2022. Jivan Lata is resident of Shimlapuri, Ludhiana and has remained district level powerlifting champion seven times. She has also become five-time champion in junior category at state level and three times at national level. Lata had also won Sports Woman award in Federation Cup after lifting heaviest weight.
