Olympic Medal Winners including Neeraj Chopra set to visit their alma mater LPU on August 31
LPU student gold medalist Olympian Neeraj Chopra and ten hockey players will be felicitated by LPU at its campus.

Jalandhar, August 30, 2021: LPU students and Olympics medal winners, Neeraj Chopra and ten Indian men’s hockey team players - Captain Manpreet Singh (MBA), Rupinderpal Singh (MBA), Harmanpal Singh (MBA), Mandeep Singh (BA), Shamsher Singh (MBA), Dilpreet Singh (BA), Varun Kumar (MBA), Gurjant Singh( MA History), Hardik Singh (MA) and Simranjeet Singh (MBA) are scheduled to visit LPU, their alma mater on Tuesday, August 31. The University is hosting a gala ceremony to felicitate its students and celebrate their victory in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

 

At the onset of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, LPU had announced cash rewards for its students who would win a medal at the sports event, which included INR 50 lacs to gold medal winners, INR 25 lacs to silver and INR 10 lacs for bronze. The University will felicitate its Olympic champions in the presence of Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, who will be grace the ceremony as Chief Guest on August 31 in a gala event where Neeraj Chopra will be rewarded with Rs 50 Lacs for winning Gold and the ten members of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team will be rewarded with Rs 85 lakhs for winning Bronze Medals for the country. University will bestow cash awards of Rs 1.75 Crores to all its Olympic medal winning students.

We have been waiting eagerly for our opportunity to have Neeraj, Manpreet and the others back at the campus so that we could felicitate them properly for their achievements and show how proud and happy the entire LPU family is at their victory.”

 

With the biggest contingent of 128 Indian athletes, Tokyo Olympics revealed many firsts for India and LPU. Of the highest tally of seven medals won by Indian athletes so far, three of these are contributed by LPU students including the only ‘Gold’. Neeraj Chopra ended India’s 121-year wait for athletics’ Gold medal.
