Chandigarh, July 7, 2026: The National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised a plantation drive at Dhanas, the University's adopted village, as part of the Van Mahotsav 2026 celebrations.
NSS volunteers, students, and local residents enthusiastically participated in the event by planting a variety of saplings and spreading awareness about the importance of afforestation and biodiversity conservation. The programme was conducted under the theme “Healing the Earth through Greener Initiatives.”
The programme was organised under the leadership of Dr. Anupam Bahri, Programme Coordinator, NSS, Panjab University, with the active support of Dr. Supreet Thapar and Dr. Papiya Mukherjee, Programme Officers. The plantation drive was aimed to promote environmental sustainability, increase green cover, and encourage community participation in protecting the environment.
The organisers highlighted the vital role of trees in combating climate change, maintaining ecological balance, and ensuring a clean and green Earth. The participants also pledged to nurture the planted saplings and adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
The event concluded with a message encouraging everyone to contribute towards a greener and healthier planet: “Let’s plant today for a better tomorrow.”
