NIFTEM Launches Village Adoption Programme at Malakpur Bet

Ludhiana, November 21, 2025: The National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) launched its Village Adoption Programme (VAP) on November 19, at Malakpur Bet, Ludhiana, aimed at fostering rural development and farmer empowerment through technology-driven initiatives.
The programme began with an interaction session at ICAR–CIPHET, Ludhiana, attended by Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwal, Director, ICAR–CIPHET, and Dr. Ranjeet Singh, Head, Transfer of Technology (TOT) Division, ICAR–CIPHET. Dr. Kotwaliwal emphasized reducing post-harvest losses and increasing value addition to strengthen farmer income. Through collaborative efforts, we aim to bring advanced post-harvest and processing technologies directly to farmers, enabling practical, field-level impact,” stated Dr. Ranjeet Singh.
Led by Dr. Vikas Kumar and Dr. Rachna Soni, the NIFTEM team visited Malakpur Bet and met Sarpanch Shri Gurvinder Singh Grewal. The key challenges identified included low awareness of government schemes, waste management issues, substance abuse concerns, and limited healthcare support.
During Day 1, the team completed a baseline survey, socio-economic assessment, and resource mapping to develop the Village Development Plan, laying the groundwork for targeted interventions under VAP.
“NIFTEM is committed to empowering rural communities through innovation, knowledge sharing, and technology adoption,” the project leadership noted.
