Ludhiana: On Day 7 of the Village Adoption Program at Malakpur Bet, NIFTEM-K conducted special lectures and demonstrations focused on food processing, millets, mushroom cultivation, and agribusiness development, drawing enthusiastic participation from farmers, SHGs, women entrepreneurs, and village youth.
Renowned scientists from ICAR–CIPHET, Dr. Ranjeet Singh, Head ToT & PI-ABI, and Dr. Rajiv Sharma, Technical Officer, addressed the gathering as guest speakers. They provided practical insights on post-harvest technologies, value addition, low-cost processing equipment, commercial potential of millets and mushrooms, and government scheme opportunities for rural enterprises.
Hands-on demonstrations by NIFTEM-K students showcased mushroom cultivation, production of puffed rice and instant rice mixes, and development of millet-based products including ragi laddoos, millet cookies, multigrain atta, and instant porridge. Participants also received guidance on PMFME, ODOP, FPO schemes and starting home-based food processing units through SHGs.
Women SHG members showed keen interest in launching micro-enterprises in millet snacks, pickles, dehydrated vegetables, and ready-to-cook mixes, expressing confidence in adopting the technologies showcased.
The session concluded with NIFTEM-K reaffirming its commitment to empowering farmers and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities through continued training and field support in Malakpur Bet.
