The functioning of the jail is improved considerably in recent times: Randhawa

Ferozepur: Cabinet Minister for Jails and Cooperation Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today revealed that to prevent the use of the mobiles in jail, mobile device locators, portable jammers and other arrangements will be made in the jails of the state. While interacting with the media persons here in this border town today, Randhawa said that the functioning of the jail is improved considerably in recent times. He said that more than 1800 mobiles has been recovered in the various jails of the state. “Besides, I have suspended more than 50 jail officials for their dereliction of duties”, he further added.
“During the last three years we have curbed the “gangster raj” in state jails. Such incidents as jail break and gangwars in jails, which were common during SAD governance, have not taken place in Congress regime since we have tighten the noose of such notorious gangsters”, he added.
Taking note of phones and other crimes, several measures to tighten the frisking and better monitoring, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed in Amritsar, Kapurthala,, Ludhiana and Bathinda jails besides high security zones have been established at twelve jails. The jail department has also put up in place ultra modern gadgets such as metal detector, X-ray machines, CCTV cameras, Quick Reaction Team (QRT) for the outer security of the jails.
Notably, five incidents have been reported in one week in Ferozepur Central jail where mobiles, SIM or intoxicating materials were recovered. On December 25, three mobile phones (without SIM) along with tobacco pouches were recovered. On December 21, three jail inmates were booked following the recovery of intoxicating material. On December 22, six undertrails were booked following the recovery of four mobiles and six SIMs from them during the checking. Yesterday, a PESCO (Punjab Ex-servicemen Corporation) employee deputed as a security guard was booked on the charges of supplying mobile phone to an under-trial lodged in the jail.
