Ludhiana, June 5, 2026: MLAs Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina and Madan Lal Bagga on Friday exhorted the members of Ward/Village Level Defence Committees (W/VDCs) to further intensify the ongoing Yudh Nasheya Virudh campaign and root out the drug menace completely from society. They urged committee members to ensure that their respective areas become free from the scourge of drugs through collective and sustained efforts.
Addressing the members of the Ward/Village Level Defence Committees during a meeting held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, the MLAs stated that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is the first government to take the fight against drugs to the grassroots level. They said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug traffickers, resulting in the demolition of properties built through drug money and the arrest of several notorious smugglers and peddlers.
The MLAs emphasized that Yudh Nasheya Virudh is not merely a campaign but a solemn commitment to the people of Punjab to free the state from the clutches of drugs. They added that most of the big fishes in the drug network have already been arrested and their illegal operations are being systematically dismantled through coordinated action.
The MLAs called upon W/VDC members to identify individuals affected by drug addiction and facilitate their admission to government-run de-addiction and rehabilitation centres. They stressed that rehabilitation and social reintegration of recovering addicts are equally important in ensuring long-term success in the fight against drugs.
Highlighting the crucial role of community participation, they said that public vigilance and cooperation are crucial for eliminating the drug menace. They urged committee members to maintain close coordination with the police and civil administration and promptly share information regarding suspicious activities related to drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The MLAs further stated that awareness generation among youth, parents and educational institutions is essential to prevent young people from falling prey to drugs. They encouraged committee members to organise regular awareness programmes, seminars and interactive sessions in their localities to educate residents about the harmful effects of drug abuse. They reiterated the government's resolve and stated that no effort would be spared to safeguard future generations from the devastating impact of drugs.
