MLAs, MC officials launch three week long annual 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' campaign
For promoting cleanliness among the residents and to encourage recycling of waste, local MLAs and Municipal Corporation (MC) officials launched the three week long 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' campaign across the city on Saturday.
Ludhiana, September 14, 2024: For promoting cleanliness among the residents and to encourage recycling of waste, local MLAs and Municipal Corporation (MC) officials launched the three week long 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' campaign across the city on Saturday.
Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga, Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu, Ludhiana South MLA Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina, Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi's representative Sukhchain Bassi Gogi, Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Prashar Pappi's representative Vikas Prashar launched the drive in their respective constituencies. MC Joint Commissioner Inderpal among other civic body officials also participated in the drive.
MLAs, civic body officials and residents came together for 'Shramdaan' (voluntary labour) and cleanliness drives on the first day of the campaign. The participants also took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean.
This annual campaign will continue till October 2 (Swachh Bharat Diwas) and different activities would be organised in the city to promote cleanliness. The civic body will conduct different activities including cleanliness drives, Swachh Bharat Cultural Mela, medical check-up of class-IV employees, Waste to Art exhibition etc.
The civic body will also involve NGOs, school students, resident welfare associations (RWA) among others during the campaign.
MC Joint Commissioner Inderpal said that during this campaign, the residents would also be urged to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste. Further awareness drives would also be held to spread awareness among residents regarding segregation of dry and wet waste in their households
Meanwhile, the legislators and authorities urged the residents to support the civic body in solid waste management by not dumping the waste at vacant plots/open spaces and by handing over segregated dry and wet waste to the garbage collectors.
