MLA Pargat Singh charges Railways with failure to facilitate Chhath Puja travellers at Jalandhar Railway Station

Ravneet Singh Bittu is a “Reel Minister,” not a Rail Minister; adequate arrangements for passengers should have been made before Chhath Puja

MLA Pargat Singh charges Railways with failure to facilitate Chhath Puja travellers at Jalandhar Railway Station

Jalandhar, October 24, 2025: The claims made by the Railway Ministry and the Union Railway Minister regarding Chhath Puja preparations, passenger safety, and travel facilities have proven completely hollow. There is a huge gap between what has been promised and the ground reality. This was stated by All India Congress Committee Secretary and MLA Padma Shri Pargat Singh, who visited Jalandhar Railway Station on Friday.

After interacting with passengers travelling to Bihar, Pargat Singh said that the railways have failed to provide even basic amenities. He remarked that Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu is busy making “reels and videos” rather than addressing the real issues faced by travellers, adding that “Bittu is not a Rail Minister but a Reel Minister.”

During his visit, Pargat Singh met passengers heading to Bihar to take stock of their difficulties. Many travellers complained about the lack of drinking water and inadequate seating facilities at the station. They also reported difficulties at ticket counters. According to Singh, several passengers were unaware that special trains had been arranged for them and were still waiting for the regular weekly trains.

Pargat Singh stated that the railways should have planned thoroughly for passengers travelling from Punjab to Bihar for Chhath Puja. Simply adding more special trains is not sufficient—passenger welfare and basic facilities must be ensured. He added that Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu should focus on improving and expanding rail services instead of posting reels on social media for personal publicity. Proper preparations could have prevented the chaos, vandalism, and incidents of stone-pelting on railway premises witnessed this week.

He further emphasized that the railways belong to the people of the country and no one has the right to damage public property. Those involved in such acts must be identified and dealt with strictly under the law.

In response to a question about the Bihar elections, Pargat Singh said the INDIA Alliance is poised to perform strongly and form the government by winning a majority of seats. There is complete unity within the alliance; minor seat-sharing issues in certain constituencies are being resolved through dialogue and will be finalized within a day or two. The people of Bihar are ready to remove the Nitish Kumar–BJP alliance, he added.
