Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that the Punjab Government has betrayed farmers and labourers on one hand. Chandigarh, June 27, 2026: Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that the Punjab Government has betrayed farmers and labourers on one hand. Accepting the Centre’s pressure, the Aam Aadmi Party government, which had earlier called a special session of the Punjab Assembly to oppose the VB-GRAM G scheme, has now quietly implemented the same scheme in Punjab. This is a compromise with the employment opportunities of lakhs of labourers.
He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must clarify that when this scheme was earlier considered against the interests of Punjab and other states, what changed now that his government implemented it without any discussion. The people of Punjab are demanding answers for this U-turn.
On the other hand, the government has betrayed farmers in the urea scam. The use of subsidised urea meant for farmers in industries is a matter of serious concern. A total of 1,340 bags of technical-grade urea were recovered from the Milkfed cattle feed plant in Khanna and 300 bags from the Markfed plant in Kapurthala. Such large-scale irregularities cannot take place without the involvement of concerned officials. He demanded a high-level and impartial investigation into the entire matter. The role of private companies, along with officials of Markfed, Milkfed, and the concerned departments, should also be investigated, and strict legal action should be taken against those found guilty. Those who have misappropriated the subsidy meant for farmers should not be spared at any cost.
Besides this, raising serious questions over Operation Sindoor, Randhawa said that politics should never be played over the nation’s security and the supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. However, if the government itself is now acknowledging that six brave soldiers were martyred during Operation Sindoor, the country wants to know why this truth was kept hidden for 13 months and 17 days. Why was there such a delay in making the names of the martyrs public? Why were their families and the nation not informed about this in time? Was the government hiding the truth from the citizens?
Randhawa said that on July 28, 2025, the government had clearly stated in Parliament that none of our soldiers suffered any casualties during Operation Sindoor. The citizens of the country have the right to know what actually happened during the operation. Who is responsible for this delay? The Central Government must provide a detailed explanation on the entire matter and clarify why this truth was kept hidden from the country for such a long period.
