Rohtak, October 7, 2026:  Renewable energy is the need of the hour, and concerted efforts to promote green energy are essential to address the growing environmental crisis, particularly the escalating threat of global warming, said Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Dr. Satish Poonia.

Dr. Poonia was speaking after inaugurating the newly established Integrated Waste Management Facility, including a Biogas Plant, at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak. The facility is aimed at converting organic waste into biogas, thereby promoting sustainable waste management and renewable energy on the University campus.

The MP appreciated MDU’s initiatives towards environmental conservation and promoting sustainable practices. He emphasised the need to expand the use of renewable energy and create greater awareness about environmental protection among students and the wider community.

Dr. Poonia also lauded the University’s efforts to strengthen student-centric support services under the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan, describing such initiatives as an important contribution towards the spirit of service and nation-building.

MDU Vice Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia said the University is committed to promoting green energy, sustainable practices and a culture of environmental responsibility among the University community. He said the newly inaugurated Biogas Plant would meet the energy requirements of three girls’ hostels and contribute significantly to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

VC Prof. Punia expressed gratitude to NGOs Sahaas and Navrambhav Social Foundation for supporting and funding the Integrated Waste Management Facility under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He said such partnerships between educational institutions and social organisations can play a significant role in advancing sustainable development.

Superintending Engineer J. S. Dahiya briefed the gathering about the salient features and functioning of the Integrated Waste Management Facility.

BJP State Treasurer Ajay Bansal, MDU Registrar Prof. Sandeep Bansal, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Randeep Rana, Dean CDC Prof. Rajesh Punia, Chief Warden (Girls) and Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Sapna Garg, Chief Warden (Boys) Prof. Sudhir Kumar, President MDUNTEA Suresh Kumar, senior University functionaries, faculty members and officials along with BJP office-bearers were present on the occasion. Representatives of the supporting NGOs were also present.
