MDU's Prof. Darshana Receives Rs. 31 Lakh Research Grant for Lumpy Disease Study
Dr. Darshana Chaudhary, Professor at the Centre for Biotechnology, MDU, has been sanctioned a research grant of ₹31 lakh under the Haryana State Research Fund (HSRF) by the Haryana State Higher Education Council.
Rohtak, July 18, 2026: Dr. Darshana Chaudhary, Professor at the Centre for Biotechnology, MDU, has been sanctioned a research grant of ₹31 lakh under the Haryana State Research Fund (HSRF) by the Haryana State Higher Education Council.
This grant has been awarded for a two-year research project focused on the eco-friendly management of Lumpy Skin Disease and the use of nanotechnology and RNAi to enhance micronutrient levels in cowpea (lobia). The total cost of the project is Rs. 31 lakh, with Rs. 23 lakh to be released in the first phase.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia congratulated Dr. Darshana Chaudhary on receiving the grant and expressed hope that the project would benefit farmers and livestock owners in the future.
Dr. Darshana said that the research would contribute significantly to developing eco-friendly solutions for Lumpy Skin Disease as well as creating nutrient-enriched crops. The project aims to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for Lumpy Skin Disease—a serious challenge for livestock—while also working to improve the nutritional quality of agricultural crops.
