Rohtak, May 12, 2026: Calling upon the youth, MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia said that the dream and goal of a 'Developed India 2047' will only be realized when the youth—and society at large—step forward to champion equality, inclusivity, and sensitivity. He noted that Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar advocated for equality not merely within society, but even within the confines of the family unit. Today, there is a pressing need to translate the spirit of the Constitution into practice, to view society through an inclusive lens, and to actively strive toward building an inclusive society.

The Vice-Chancellor was addressing a one-day workshop held on Tuesday in the Conference Hall of Swaraj Sadan, organized under the joint aegis of the Centre for Disability Studies and the SC/ST Cell at MDU. The theme of the workshop was "Developed India 2047: Realizing Dr. Ambedkar's Vision through an Inclusive and Accessible Society."

In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia urged the students to step forward and work actively toward securing equal opportunities for backward and marginalized sections of society, and toward the construction of an inclusive social fabric. He emphasized that an inclusive outlook and a spirit of compassion constitute the greatest necessities of our times. Every person with a disability possesses some unique talent or ability; what is required is to recognize and nurture that potential. Society must cultivate a mindset that looks beyond the disability itself, focusing instead on an individual's capabilities and potential.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Pravesh Chaudhary from JNU, New Delhi, observed that Dr. Ambedkar's vision was not confined merely to constitutional rights; rather, he aspired to create a society where every individual would be accorded dignity and opportunity. He added that the responsibility of universities and educational institutions extends beyond simply imparting education; it also encompasses fostering social sensitivity and humanistic values among the students.

The distinguished guest, Dr. A.D. Paswan—Principal of SIRTAR—said that persons with disabilities can play an effective and meaningful role in society only when provided with an accessible environment and the means to achieve self-reliance. Prof. Pratima Devi, Director of the Centre for Disability Studies, delivered the welcome address. Faculty members, research scholars, and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
