MDU Professor’s 37th Book Explores Climate-Resilient Farming

Rohtak, September 19, 2026: MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Poonia released Agricultural Biostimulants for Mitigation of Salt, Drought and Heat Stress, edited by Prof. S.S. Gill of the Centre for Biotechnology. Published by Elsevier Academic Press, UK, the book examines scientific approaches to protect crops from drought, heat stress and rising soil salinity amid climate change.

Prof. Poonia congratulated Prof. Gill and appreciated his research contributions in plant stress biology, biotechnology and sustainable crop improvement. He said the international recognition of Prof. Gill’s research was a matter of pride for MDU. Centre for Biotechnology Director Prof. Ritu Gill was also present.

Prof. S.S. Gill said the book focuses on improving crop growth, productivity and stress tolerance under changing climatic conditions. It covers research on beneficial microbes, seaweed extracts, biochar, plant growth regulators, nano-formulations and polyamines.

The book also highlights the potential of biostimulants to improve nutrient-use efficiency, soil health, crop productivity and plant resilience under adverse conditions.

This is Prof. Gill’s 37th book. His research has received more than 30,000 citations, with an h-index of 63. The book is part of the Biostimulants and Protective Biochemical Agents series.
