MDU Pays Rich Tributes to Haryana’s Freedom Fighters on Heroes’ and Martyrdom Day

Rohtak, September 23, 2026: Rich tributes were paid to the freedom fighters of Haryana for their unforgettable and stellar contribution to India’s freedom struggle on the occasion of Haryana Heroes’ and Martyrdom Day on Tuesday.
The MDU community, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia, paid floral tributes at the State-Level Freedom Fighter Memorial. Prof. Punia placed a floral wreath and offered flowers at the memorial in remembrance of the martyrs and freedom fighters who made significant contributions to the nation’s freedom movement.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Milap Punia recalled the invaluable contributions of prominent freedom fighters and national leaders from Haryana, including Rao Tula Ram, Sir Chhotu Ram, Pandit Neki Ram Sharma and Lala Deshbandhu Gupta, in India’s freedom struggle. He paid special tribute to Rao Tula Ram, whose martyrdom is commemorated through the observance of Haryana Heroes’ and Martyrdom Day.
The Vice Chancellor said that the rich legacy of Haryana’s freedom fighters and their role in the national freedom movement should be familiar to the younger generation. He announced that a seminar highlighting the role and contributions of Haryana’s freedom fighters to India’s freedom struggle would be organised at MDU in the future.
Prof. Punia emphasised the need to sensitise students to the history, heritage and glorious legacy of Haryana, saying that awareness of the sacrifices and contributions of the freedom fighters would help strengthen their sense of national responsibility and connect them with the historical heritage of the state.
A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

V. Sheokand, Assistant Director Sports Dr. Vipin Saini, PRO Pankaj Nain along with other university officials, faculty members and members of the MDU community, paid floral tributes at the Freedom Fighter Memorial.
The occasion served as a solemn reminder of the courage, sacrifice and commitment of Haryana’s freedom fighters and martyrs, whose contribution remains an enduring part of the state’s historical legacy and India’s freedom struggle.
