Rohtak, October 8, 2026: The changing role of faculty in institutional leadership and university transformation came under discussion during a special session on the fourth day of the Faculty Development Programme at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU).
Raffles University Vice-Chancellor Prof RS Sangwan said faculty members’ responsibilities extended beyond teaching and research. Their academic expertise, professional experience and institutional participation could make them key drivers of positive change in universities.
He stressed the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative teaching methods, industry linkages and effective responses to emerging challenges in higher education.
Prof (Dr) Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Pro-Chancellor, Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Dehradun, said continuous improvement should become an integral part of an institution’s work culture. Quality assurance, he said, should not remain confined to regulatory requirements, accreditation or rankings, but should be embedded in academics, administration, research, teaching-learning, student development and stakeholder participation.
He said institutional excellence was a continuous journey requiring regular assessment, identification of areas for improvement, implementation of reforms and evaluation of their impact.
FDC Director Prof Muneesh Garg, Deputy Director Dr Madhuri Hooda and faculty participants attended the session.
