Mann government sets target to provide drinking water in all villages across Punjab

Chandigarh, August 3, 2022: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government has prepared a 'Village Action Plan' to achieve the goal of providing clean and potable water in all the villages of the state during the current financial year. 

At present, clean drinking water is being provided to every house in 12009 villages of the state. 

During the year 2022-23, the goal of providing piped drinking water to all the villages of the state will be achieved. Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Mr. Bram Shankar Jimpa informed that water connection to all the household will be provide under the 'Village Action Plan', besides laying of pipes lines in new villages and strengthening of drinking water sources. At present, clean drinking water is being provided to 12009 villages of the state through 9554 water supply schemes. So far, 99 percent of the water supply work has been completed.

Notably, the training of engineers and other staff was carried under the supervision of seniors officers of water supply and sanitation department so that this task could be accomplished within stipulated time .  More than 700 engineers and social field staff have been given training by subject experts under daily monitoring by Sub Divisional Engineer and Executive Engineer.

The purpose of this training is to fulfill the goal of the village action plan by conducting a contact campaign by the staff.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission  all the households and common places in the villages of Punjab tap water is being provided, said the Minister adding that the necessary instruction in this regard to cover each and every household in the rural areas had already been given to the official of the department.
