Mohali, Feb 26, 2014:  PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Germany in association with Rayat & Bahra Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mohali organised a one day workshop on “Self Defense Against Crime”  at Rayat and Bahra campus, Mohali.
Awareness, avoidance, prevention and execution are tools people can use to protect themselves from potential aggressors, said Dr OP Midha, Director-cum-principal, Rayat & Bahra Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mohali.
Everyone, regardless of size or physical ability, can learn some simple self-defense strategies to stay safe, added Dr. Midha.
“Avoiding confrontation through distance is the best defense. But sometimes people can’t get away, so they need to have a plan and some basic self-defense skills to fight back if someone violates their space”, said Manjula, CEO & Certified Training Professional with “The Transformers Value Creators”- during the self defense workshop.
Manjula demonstrated some quick fight back techniques that people can use to get away. She stressed that when one learns one’s limitations, one also learns and identifies one’s strengths.
In a confrontation, a person only has a few seconds to get away; thus, a victim must aim for the most vulnerable parts of the body: the eyes, nose, ears, neck, groin, knee and legs.
The main objective of this workshop was to acquaint and sensitize students and faculty members with the various types of crime prevalent in our society, specially crime against children, women, men, senior citizens besides crime in general.
The workshop aimed at creating awareness regarding protecting and defending oneself from crime and simultaneously be a support to the others in such problems.
Effort was made to make the students & the faculty members aware of the various kinds of laws for defense besides inculcating strength and spirit to fight the wrong and contribute towards eradication of crime or injustice. Effort was also made to create a more sensitive, vigilant & assertive environment by teaching them defensive measures at the time of crime, and tools and aids to be used for prevention and defence against crime
The programme focused on inculcating confrontation avoidance, reporting and self-defense through a series of warm-ups, strength training and activities.
Nearly 200 management and engineering students along with faculty members attended to learn basic skills to stay safe in everyday situations.//punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news, world news,
