Chandigarh, January 6, 2026: At a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club, renowned orthopaedic surgeon and regenerative medicine specialist Dr N. K. Aggarwal of MCH, Ludhiana (UK–Liverpool affiliation) shared key insights into the rising incidence of knee disorders and effective non-surgical treatment options. Dr Aggarwal has over 35 years of experience in the field of knee replacement surgery.
Citing a comprehensive World Health Organization (WHO) study involving 56,548 people, Dr Aggarwal noted that 16% of the global population suffers from musculoskeletal pain. In the Indian context, this translates to one in every six individuals being affected.
He further highlighted that by 2036, one in seven Indians will be aged 60 years or above, and 16–20% of this population is likely to suffer from knee-related disorders—posing a significant public health challenge in the coming years.
Discussing the major causes of knee ailments, Dr Aggarwal pointed to changing lifestyles, ageing, obesity, and high-stress daily routines as key contributors. He emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and timely, appropriate treatment.
While knee replacement surgery remains effective for many, Dr Aggarwal noted that about 5% of patients develop complications, and 20–25% do not achieve the expected outcomes. Addressing this gap, he has developed a new regenerative medicine–based treatment protocol that targets the root causes of knee disease and offers a non-surgical alternative.
“So far, we have successfully treated more than 150 knees using this protocol. Over 95% of patients have shown highly satisfactory results, with significant pain reduction, improved mobility, and a marked enhancement in quality of life,” he said.
According to Dr Aggarwal, several patients who were earlier advised knee replacement surgery are now leading normal lives without undergoing surgery. He urged people not to ignore knee pain, adding:
“With timely treatment, inflammation can be controlled and the knees can be preserved for the long term. The right treatment at the right time is the most effective way to avoid surgery.”
