Amritsar, January 20, 201: University Grants Commission has sanctioned two major research projects to the department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences of Guru Nanak Dev University.
Dr.Satwinderjeet Kaur, Head of the Department said that Dr.A.S.Soodan has been granted a research project of Rs.11.25 lac from UGC on ‘Investigations into phytoliths for identification and taxonomic analysis of grasses of North-Western Himalayan region’. The work is expected to furnish additional evidences for classification of grasses which is a challenging field in Botany.
Similarly, Dr.Manpreet Singh Bhatti has received a grant of Rs. 13.6 lac for his project titled ‘Diminution of arsenic and fluoride from drinking water using electrocoagulation and nanoparticle based adsorbents’. The emphasis in this project will be on remediation of RO reject water from community reverse osmosis plants and their effective removal using integration of electrochemical with nanoparticle based adsorbents. /(SK Vyas/Jalandhar)
