Ferozepur, October 11, 2025: In a series of coordinated operations, Punjab Police has delivered a major blow to the drug nexus operating in the border district, arresting several peddlers and recovering large quantities of heroin, opium, and poppy husk.
Disclosing the details, SSP Bhupinder Singh said that acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and arrested three drug smugglers identified as Love alias Love Bhatti, Shiva, and Pragat alias Godhar — all residents of the city. “During checking, the police recovered 1.13 kg heroin and three mobile phones from their possession,” said the SSP. An FIR under Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the City Police Station.
In another operation, Zira police nabbed three accused — Harjinder Singh alias Jinder, Gurjinder Singh alias Gora, and Surjeet Singh alias Sidha — while they were travelling in a Creta car. Upon inspection, 20.258 kg opium and two mobile phones were recovered. “The accused were bringing the contraband from Uttar Pradesh for supply in Punjab,” the SSP revealed, adding that the police were investigating both backward and forward links of the network. An FIR under Sections 18, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Zira Sadar police station.
In separate cases, Sandeep Singh of Tarn Taran and Gurbhej Singh alias Gora of Zira were caught with 51.64 kg poppy husk, while in Guruharsahai, Sukhdev Singh alias Moli was arrested with 35 kg poppy husk. All have been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
Reaffirming the police’s resolve against the drug menace, SSP Bhupinder Singh said, “We will not allow anyone to indulge in drug trafficking. The police are committed to acting firmly against all such anti-social elements.”
