Jalandhar, March 10, 2023: Equal support for men and women echoed in the festive parade organized at Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar to celebrate International Women’s Day. The parade consisted of several commemorative and celebratory elements such as signs and banners celebrating womanhood, balloons representing women’s day colours - purple, green and white, colourfully decorated bicycles, students dressed up as inspiring women icons (both historical and present day) etc. Chief Guest of the event Principal, Prof Jasreen Kaur congratulated the students for participating in such large numbers. She said that while women’s day is a time to celebrate how far women have come in spite of all the odds, it is also an occasion to plan for the future

A mime debunking stereotypes and repudiating the unfair and unrealistic societal expectations from women, a dance performance critiquing various degrading labels given to women and hoping for a future where everyone has the right to be themselves, a choreography showcasing the multifarious roles a woman plays in her life were some of the other highlights of the occasion.

Kritika of BSc Biotech, dressed as Jhansi ki Rani, Ishtpreet dressed as Sohni, Vineeta of MA Eng dressed as a Mother, and Tanpreet of BPT dressed as Dr Swapna Misra, a robotic gynecology surgeon won prizes in Dress up as a Woman Icon contest.

Dr Geetanjali Mahajan, President English Literary Society said that only collective activism could bring about change. She said that only if both men and women were committed to supporting each other could we hope to forge a world where everyone could live with equality and dignity. The entire Lyallpur Khalsa fraternity - students, teaching and non- teaching staff, all participated in the event to show their solidarity towards values of equality and love.
