Ludhiana, June 3, 2025: Under the Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang initiative, the district’s Class 10 toppers Mehakpreet Kaur, Sanyam Jindal, and Yusana spent Tuesday with Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain.
Mehakpreet Kaur from Government High School, Ghungrali Rajputan, and Sanyam Jindal from Government High School, Kakowal, with remarkable scores of 97.85% and 96.92%, respectively, while Yusana from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, Ludhiana, achieved an impressive 96.77% marks. They gained valuable insights into the operations of the district administration and its several line departments, learning about governance, public service delivery, and the responsibilities of administrative officials.
The day began with the Deputy Commissioner warmly welcoming the students at the breakfast table where Himanshu Jain captivated students by sharing his inspiring journey from a humble family in Jind, Haryana, to becoming an IAS officer. He encouraged them to dream big, work diligently, and avoid shortcuts in pursuit of their ambitions. Stressing the importance of consistency, he advised setting a clear timeline for their goals and starting immediately, emphasizing that their current efforts lay the foundation for future success, just as his own determination led him to overcome challenges and achieve his dreams.
Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner took Mehakpreet Kaur, Sanyam Jindal, and Yusana to his office, in his official vehicle. During the visit, he provided an in-depth overview of his daily responsibilities, including conducting official meetings, monitoring line departments, overseeing projects' implementation, and addressing public grievances. He also shared insights into the administration’s response to emergency situations, such as the effective management of blackouts experienced in Ludhiana last month. To offer a comprehensive understanding of the office’s operations, the students were guided through various branches of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where they observed first-hand the functions and workflows of different departments. This immersive experience was designed to inspire and educate the students about the intricacies of district administration and public service.
Following their visit to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Mehakpreet Kaur, Sanyam Jindal, and Yusana were taken to key administrative facilities, including the District Bureau of Employment & Enterprises (DBEE), Bal Bhawan, and the Red Cross office. At each location, they received detailed briefings on the roles and functions of these departments, gaining insights into their contributions to employment generation, child welfare, and other services. The administration further enriched the students’ experience by hosting a lunch, where Assistant Commissioner Payal Goyal joined them, engaging in discussions to inspire and guide the students about public service and governance.
The students also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Commissioner for warmth, guidance, and invaluable opportunity to learn about the administration. They also lauded Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang program, which provide meritorious students with a platform to interact with senior officials and gain exposure to governance and public administration.
Mehakpreet Kaur remarked that her experience has been truly exciting, and the workings of the the administration have motivated her to work harder and contribute to society. Sanyam Jindal expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and stated that it inspires him to explore a career in public service. Similarly, Yusana shared similar feelings, stating that today's visit has provided her with a new perspective on the role of the district administration in our society, and she is thankful for this unforgettable opportunity.
