Ludhiana, June 9, 2025: On directions of the Election Commission of India, the first round of training for Micro Observers was conducted on Monday at Guru Nanak Bhawan, ahead of the Ludhiana West by-election scheduled for June 19. 

The session, overseen by Election Observer Rajeev Kumar, IAS, focused on preparing Micro Observers for their critical role in ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.

The participants briefed on their responsibilities, emphasizing the need for vigilant oversight of all polling activities. They were instructed to closely monitor voter verification, booth operations, and any significant incidents on polling day. “Micro Observers serve as the Election Commission’s eyes and ears,” the general observer remarked, urging them to perform their duties with utmost accuracy and impartiality to uphold the integrity of the election.

The training included a comprehensive overview of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), with practical guidance on their operation and the procedure for conducting mock polls to verify EVM functionality before voting begins. 

Observer Rajiv Kumar stressed the importance of meticulous attention to detail, ensuring Micro Observers are well-equipped to maintain transparency at their assigned polling stations.
