Ludhiana Shows Unity on World Environment Day; Over 1,300 Citizens Participate in Ploggers Drive 2.0

Ludhiana, June 5, 2026: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Philanthropy Club, in collaboration with the District Administration, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, and City Needs, organized Ploggers Drive 2.0, bringing citizens together against plastic pollution and promoting the vision of a clean and green Ludhiana.
The campaign was graced by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal, ADC (General) Payal Goyal, Joint Commissioner Jasdev Sekhon, and several other administrative officials. More than 1,300 citizens enthusiastically participated in the initiative.
Starting at 5:30 AM, participants covered over 25 routes across the city, jogging while collecting plastic waste. The collected waste was deposited at the designated Municipal Corporation collection point outside Rose Garden. Around 35 NGOs, schools, colleges, corporate organizations, and educational institutions joined the drive.
Philanthropy Club Founder Lakhminder Kaur (Dicky Chhabra) stated that 35 teams collected plastic waste from areas including Sarabha Nagar, Malhar Road, Ghumar Mandi, Model Town, Shimlapuri, South City Road, Dugri, PAU Road, Mall Road, Preet Palace, and Bharat Nagar Chowk.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain flagged off one of the teams from Sutlej Club and emphasized the importance of community participation in environmental conservation. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal flagged off another team from Shri Ram Global Pre School on Mall Road.
Addressing the participants, DC Himanshu Jain said that environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of the government but of every citizen. The enthusiastic participation on World Environment Day reflects Ludhiana’s commitment to a cleaner and greener future.
Dr. Neeru Katyal highlighted that public participation is crucial in combating plastic pollution and promoting cleanliness. She noted that such campaigns play a significant role in raising awareness and keeping the city clean.
As part of the event, children presented a street play (nukkad natak) to spread awareness about plastic pollution. The programme also featured a special dance performance by Bindiya Sood and a yoga session. Teams that collected the highest amount of waste were honoured to encourage greater participation.
An Eco Fair organized at Rose Garden emerged as a major attraction, featuring stalls focused on environmental conservation, waste management, and sustainable living. Participants enthusiastically joined activities aimed at becoming “Sustainability Champions.”
The success of the campaign was supported by Udaan, Gitanjali Success Academy, Radhe-Radhe Jewellers, KC overseas, Richville, and 3D Karishma. Organizers said that the overwhelming public response reflects Ludhiana’s growing commitment to becoming a cleaner, greener, and environmentally responsible city.
The event concluded with the message that collective efforts and active public participation are essential to ensuring a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
