Ludhiana Set to Celebrate Green Action with Tree ATM 4.0 Launch & Green Guardian Awards

Ludhiana, July 17, 2025: In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana in association with CityNeeds, District Administration, and District Forest Department, will be organizing a comprehensive green event on Saturday, 19th July 2025 at Pahwa Auditorium, Guru Nanak Bhawan, Ludhiana from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The day will begin with a Training Workshop on “Plantation – The Right Way” aimed at training students, volunteers, and Eco Club leaders on effective and scientific plantation practices.

The workshop will be addressed by senior Environmentalist Dr. Balwinder Singh Lakhewali and Dr. Brij Mohan Bhardwaj, Horticulturist & Secretary, SOCH.

They will highlight the Importance of native species, Site preparation & post-care techniques, Scientific methods for plant survival and Dos and Don’ts of community plantations

The prestigious Green Guardian Awards 2025 will be presented to individuals and institutions who demonstrated exceptional care of saplings planted under last year’s Tree ATM 3.0 campaign. The awards will be conferred by Smt. Inderjit Kaur, Hon’ble Mayor of Ludhiana, along with Sh Himanshu Jain IAS Deputy Commissioner and Sh Aditya Detchwal IAS Municipal Commissioner and Jasdev Sekhon Assistant Commissioner Municipal Corporation.

Following the award ceremony, Tree ATM 4.0 will be formally flagged off, marking the launch of Ludhiana’s most innovative mobile plantation service.

Through this initiative, citizens can book a free tree plantation at their site. After evaluation, volunteers from Marshall Aid*l will visit with tools and native saplings to conduct professional plantation, supported by geo-tagging and follow-up checks. CityNeeds Tree ATM has now entered into its 4th year. Survival rate of last year plantation was 54% on overall but the ones planted within a boundary wall or fencing was found to be 80% informed Maneet Dewan founder CityNeeds. Thus we have decided not to plant saplings in public areas without tree guards and aim for 70% survival rate of plants this year.

Service is free and includes saplings, tools, and trained volunteers informed Jasdev Sekhon but we will be very particular about the site selection. Site must have fencing, water supply, and a designated caretaker

This event reaffirms Ludhiana’s commitment to a greener and cleaner city through community participation and scientific action.
