Dewan and Satvir call talks with Canadian MP Ruby Sahota insightful on tackling crime

Ludhiana, August 27, 2026: Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) General Secretary Pawan Dewan and former Chairman of the Planning Board SBS Nagar Satvir Singh Palijikki met Brampton North MP Ruby Sahota, who is also currently serving as the Secretary of State for Combatting Crime in Canada. Dewan and Satvir were accompanied by Liberal Party of Canada National Vice-President Hardam Mangat and Amarpreet Aulakh. 
During the meeting, Dewan and Satvir discussed a wide range of issues with Sahota. “Sahota spoke candidly about her role in tackling crime, extortion, shootings and drug smuggling in Canada. She explained how Prime Minister Mark Carney constituted a working committee comprising city mayors, provincial ministers, the Public Safety Minister, local MPs, police chiefs, RCMP and CBSA officials, backed by substantial financial support to address these challenges.”
Dewan and Satvir added that Sahota informed them about new laws passed by the Canadian Parliament granting police greater powers to arrest suspects and search crime scenes. She also highlighted enhanced judicial authority to reform offenders and deny bail to criminals. “With these measures, Canada and the USA have successfully arrested several gangsters and smugglers”, Sahota told Dewan and Satvir, while emphasizing that the crackdown on extortionists, criminals and traffickers remains active, with the goal of putting them behind bars
Terming the meeting extremely fruitful, Dewan and Satvir said it was enlightening to understand the mechanisms through which Canada is tackling gangsters, extortionists, criminals and smugglers. During their one on one discussion with Sahota, Dewan and Satvir said they gained valuable insights into the crime syndicate and the strategies to counter it.
