Ludhiana farmer leads by example: Shuns stubble burning, embraces in-situ management

Kailpur (Ludhiana), November 11, 2025: In a positive display of environmental responsibility, Dilbagh Singh, a farmer from village Braich in Ludhiana West sub-division, has once again proven that sustainable agriculture is not just possible but it is also profitable and practical.
For the fifth consecutive year, Singh has refrained from burning paddy stubble. Instead, he has been using a super seeder to harvest the crop residue directly into the soil while sowing wheat, preserving soil health and preventing air pollution.
Agriculture Development Officer Dr. Veerpal Kaur and Dr. Karamjit Singh personally lauded Dilbagh Singh and conducted a live field demonstration of in-situ stubble management using the Super Seeder.
Dr. Veerpal Kaur added that not burning stubble is a double victory as it protects our air and boosts soil fertility. By mixing residue into the fields, farmers improve organic content and cut down on chemical fertilizer costs.”_
Dr. Karamjit Singh urged farmers to take full advantage of government subsidies on crop residue management machinery, adding that such tools are now more accessible than ever.
Fellow farmers in the village have been collectively clearing stubble from nearly 50 acres and transporting it to a designated common site for centralized management. They also took a collective pledge by announcing that they will not burn stubble this season and will keep the environment clean and fully support the agriculture department.
