Ludhiana, March 10, 2026: The Ludhiana Bus Stand in a historic move has been converted into the first bus terminal in Punjab that is disabled friendly.
The district administration along with Act Humane NGO led by its founder Harleen Kaur initiated this under the Project UMEED (Universal Mobility for Empowerment and Enabling of Persons with Disabilities) with the assistance of the Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain.
The facility has also been equipped with tactile flooring, Braille signages on the
pillars so that the visually impaired passengers can navigate the terminal on their
own, find bus counters and routes.
There is a facility of disable-friendly washroom as well. These upgrades enable disabled travellers to travel independently as opposed to having to be aided all the time.
The Chief Governance Officer, Ambar Bandopadhyay and District Transformation Intern, Navpreet Sidhu were also a part of this prestigious project.
Influenced by the international accessibility standards, Harleen Kaur strived to introduce the provisions of inclusion that are already present in the Indian law.
After this success, the administration intends to expand these features of accessibility to other places of the population such as the Civil Hospital so that all government amenities remain accessible to every citizen.
