Mehta Stages Unique Protest by Distributing Gift Packs of Expensive Sugar and Vegetables

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Mehta distributed gift packets containing expensive sugar and vegetables to women, drawing attention to the rising prices of essential food items.

Ludhiana, August 26, 2026: Amid rising inflation during the festive season, senior leader and former councillor Parminder Mehta staged a unique protest against the Narendra Modi-led Central Government at Chhawani Mohalla today. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Mehta distributed gift packets containing expensive sugar and vegetables to women, drawing attention to the rising prices of essential food items.
Mehta said that the festive season was placing an additional burden of inflation on ordinary families. He pointed out that prices of essential daily-use items such as sugar, jaggery, mustard oil and detergent, along with vegetables including onions, cucumbers and tomatoes, had increased, putting pressure on household budgets.
He said that while people wanted to celebrate festivals such as Raksha Bandhan with happiness, rising food prices were adding to the difficulties faced by the common man.
He urged the government to take serious cognisance of inflation and take concrete steps to provide relief to the general public. By distributing gift packets of expensive sugar and vegetables, he registered his protest against the government and remarked sarcastically, “Now, wake up, Modi Government.”
On the occasion, Ravinder Syan, Sarabjit Singh Bunty, Tikshan Mehta, Tinku Pujara, Ashok, Pawan Sharma, Ashok Sachdeva and Satnam Kaur, among other prominent persons, participated in the protest.
