LPU Soft-Ballers earned recognition as the best across the nation

Five Soft-ball players of Lovely Professional University (LPU) have won Gold Medals in their respective competitions at 45th Senior National Softball Championship held in Srinagar, recently. They were part of Punjab State’s both men and women teams which have won the championships, individually.

Jalandhar, November 23, 2023: Five Soft-ball players of Lovely Professional University (LPU) have won Gold Medals in their respective competitions at 45th Senior National Softball Championship held in Srinagar, recently. They were part of Punjab State’s both men and women teams which have won the championships, individually.

 

Twenty seven (27) men-teams and 25 women-teams comprising 1000+ players and officials from across India had participated in the tournament. The event not only aimed to promote softball but also promoted unity and camaraderie among players from different corners of the country. In fact, Softball is gaining popularity among the masses in India.

 

LPU’s skilful players for the women team included Hira Kumari, Manpreet Kaur, Aarti and Mallika; whereas, Suresh was the part of the men's team. In the Women’s final played between Punjab and Maharashtra, the former clinched the title with Gold. The teams Maharashtra and Kerala settled for silver and bronze medals respectively. In the other final in the Men’s category played between Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, the Punjab team emerged victorious while Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra settled for second and third place respectively. The hosts J&K settled at seventh place in the competition after beating the Delhi team.

 

Congratulating the students, LPU Pro Chancellor Rashmi Mittal shared: “Such championships generate healthy competitive spirit among the players to excel and be crowned as the national heroes. These provide them a big platform to showcase their skills and to win national/international honours. We mentor students as per their individual passions and skills to be on the top in all the fields.”

 

The game, which had commenced with traditional performances of Music and Martial Arts, was inaugurated by the Secretary, Youth Services and Sports (YSS) of the host state. Local residents and passionate sports lovers had gathered in large numbers to cheer on the competing teams. The games were hosted by Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council at twin venues- Bakshi Stadium, and Multiple Sports Complex, Rajbagh. Office bearers of the Softball Association of India including Dr Praveen Anorkar had also graced the occasion.
