The 14 member’s delegation from the Isle of Wight College, UK, participated in an intensive two week cultural and academic exchange program.
Jalandhar: Reaffirming its position as one of India’s leading universities for internationalization and global connectivity, Lovely Professional University (LPU) recently hosted a high level delegation from the United Kingdom. The cohort, comprising 14 faculty members and students from the Isle of Wight College, UK, participated in an intensive two week cultural and academic exchange program. This initiative highlights LPU's strategic vision to create borderless learning environments through robust international partnerships. The program, devised by LPU’s Division of International Affairs in collaboration with the India Business Group, was designed not just as a visit, but as a strategic platform for cross cultural pedagogy and knowledge transfer. The visit also saw the presence of the Acting Deputy High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in Chandigarh, underscoring the diplomatic and strategic importance of the collaboration.
LPU curated a multi-disciplinary itinerary that bridged the gap between classroom theory and global application. The delegation engaged in specialized modules across various faculties. At the Mittal School of Business, the UK delegates attended an exclusive session on “Jugaad Marketing.” This module provided unique insights into India’s indigenous approach to resource-efficient innovation a critical skill in today’s global business landscape.
In the School of Hotel Management kitchens, they prepared traditional Indian dishes for the first time, engaging in an enriching culinary exchange with hospitality students. At the School of Fashion Design, students immersed themselves in creative pursuits, participating in clay art workshops and fashion design sessions focused on fabric printing and pattern creation. They further took part in an impressive Indian couture showcase, celebrating the elegance and diversity of Indian textiles.
Demonstrating LPU's commitment to holistic education, the exchange extended beyond academic walls. The delegation visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar to understand the spiritual fabric of the region. Furthermore, their engagement with rural Punjab visiting village schools and distributing utilities provided a grassroots perspective on community development, aligning with global sustainability goals. The itinerary also balanced intellectual rigor with wellness, incorporating yoga, meditation, and friendly sports matches in cricket, badminton, and football.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, stated, “In an era defined by rapid transformation, universities must function as platforms where nations exchange knowledge, perspectives, and responsibility. At LPU, academic mobility is not merely about exposure, it is about preparing young minds to engage with complexity and respond to global challenges with insight and integrity.”
Reflecting on the program, Ms. Ros Parker, Principal of Isle of Wight College, expressed deep appreciation for the experience, stating, “This exchange has been a remarkable blend of learning, culture, and creativity. The openness of dialogue, the spirit of innovation, and the warmth of the LPU community have created an atmosphere where our students truly grow.”
Dr. Aman Mittal, Vice President of LPU, emphasised the strategic value of international partnerships, stating, “Collaborations of this nature create ecosystems where ideas, methodologies, and cultural perspectives intersect. When students engage across borders, they gain insights that extend far beyond academic knowledge; they begin to understand how innovation, sustainability, and global citizenship are shaped by diverse contexts. At LPU, the focus is on building such meaningful academic linkages that not only enrich learning but also broaden the scope of scholarly engagement.”
This visit is part of LPU’s larger mandate to internationalize Indian higher education. The university continues to aggressively expand its global footprint, offering students and faculty fully funded global programs, semester abroad opportunities, credit transfer pathways, and joint international research collaborations. These initiatives ensure that LPU remains a primary destination for global learners and a launchpad for Indian students seeking world class exposure.
