Prizes worth over ₹14 lakh awarded in the first edition of Bharat Innovation Challenge, recognising outstanding young innovators from across the country.

Jalandhar, April 18, 2026: India’s largest brain marathon for young innovators, the Bharat Innovation Challenge 2025-26, converged at Lovely Professional University (LPU). This LPU led national initiative witnessed an overwhelming response, with participation from over 2,600 teams, 10,000+ students and mentors, spanning 28 states and 500+ cities. Designed as a two stage innovation journey, the challenge began with online submissions across ten diverse themes including smart living, health and wellness, cybersecurity, climate action, agriculture, mobility, education, and inclusion. From this nationwide pool, the top 120 teams advanced to the grand finale.
At the finale, selected teams presented their working prototypes before an esteemed jury panel comprising 21 industry experts and leaders. The event featured structured pitch sessions, innovation expo displays, and interactive evaluations, offering an immersive platform for young innovators to demonstrate their ideas through functional models, applications, and prototypes.
The jury panel evaluated entries on key parameters including innovation and uniqueness, effective integration of AI, feasibility, prototype strength, clarity of presentation, and overall real world impact. Based on these assessments, the challenge recognised excellence with a total prize pool exceeding ₹14 lakh across 8 categories, including grand prizes, Jury special awards, and special honours for impactful solutions, best prototypes, and outstanding presentations, along with acknowledgements for top contributing schools.
Several projects stood out for their strong real world relevance. Kavach, a smart safety belt, used AI for fall detection, SOS alerts, and real time tracking to support individuals with neurological conditions. VisionX introduced assistive glasses enabling greater independence for the visually impaired through obstacle detection and voice assistance. A smart self cleaning urinal system based on photocatalysis offered a sustainable approach to public hygiene, while Vardaan, a powered exoskeleton, focused on restoring mobility for individuals with lower body paralysis. StrongHer presented a comprehensive platform addressing women’s health concerns such as PCOS and PCOD through personalised care.
After intense competition among top young innovators from across the country, Project Sanketra-I from DAV Public School, Dehradun secured the overall championship of the event, earning the top honour along with a cash prize of ₹3 lakh.
The first runner-up honours went to Project Hare Krsna from DAV Public School, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha and Project Sahi Bachat from Nehru World School, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, with each team receiving ₹2 lakh. Congratulating the participants, Dr. Lovi Raj Gupta, Pro Vice-Chancellor of LPU, appreciated their enthusiasm and learning spirit. Dr. Gupta encouraged students to move beyond projects and think in terms of scalable products, emphasising that transformative ideas often begin with small innovations but achieve impact through vision and execution. Dr. Gupta described students as the “Indians of Tomorrow,” expressing confidence that such young innovators will shape the future of technology and entrepreneurship.
Beyond the competition, the event offered students valuable exposure through mentorship interactions, networking opportunities, and peer learning, making it a comprehensive innovation experience. The initiative reflects LPU’s vision of advancing an education revolution by cultivating ecosystems where learning intersects with innovation, enabling young minds to engage with real world challenges, harness emerging technologies, and translate ideas into impactful solutions, while opening pathways for sustained intellectual and professional growth.
