LPU Hosted National Stone Carving Camp Reviving India’s Timeless Sculptural Heritage
Renowned Artists and Students Collaborate to Revitalize India's Sculptural Heritage

Jalandhar; October 14, 2025: The School of Liberal & Creative Arts at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized a two-week National Stone Carving Camp, a vibrant initiative dedicated to the enduring legacy of Indian stone art. The camp served as a dynamic platform where heritage meets experimentation, the camp serves as a living tribute to the country’s enduring legacy of stone craftsmanship while nurturing new artistic voices.
The event featured renowned artists from across India, including Mandeep Singh, Tarvinder Singh, Vishal, Simran Singh Sekha, Vikas Pratap Singh, Dharam Netam, Narender Dewangan, Manisha, and Renu Bala. These master craftspeople provided Bachelor's and Master's Fine Arts students with rare, hands-on training. The immersive learning journey covered the entire sculpting process, from conceptualizing designs to executing complex sculptures in white and black marble, with dedicated workshops on safety, tool handling, and artistic development.
Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, felicitated the participating artists and students and appreciated their dedication to reviving and reimagining classical art forms. Dr. Mittal remarked, “Such initiatives embody the spirit of learning that is lived rather than taught. Witnessing the synergy between seasoned artists and our students transforming raw stone into profound expressions of art is a truly visionary step towards a more creatively enriched society and youth.”
Beyond skill training, the camp presented a deeply collaborative environment, encouraging dialogue across diverse cultural and stylistic backgrounds. Artists and students jointly explored contemporary themes through traditional methods, resulting in works that reflect both rootedness and reinvention. These exchanges have not only strengthened technical foundations but also broadened perspectives on how heritage crafts can adapt to modern narratives.
The sculptures created during the camp were displayed for students, faculty and art experts. The experience not only strengthened the confidence of participating students but also increased awareness about the discipline and significance of stone carving in the context of present day art.
LPU’s core educational philosophy of ‘EduRevolution’, which prioritizes experiential and hands-on learning, is reflected through such workshops and camps. By encouraging initiatives that move beyond the classroom and enable direct interaction with master practitioners, LPU ensures that education remains deeply rooted in real-world application. The University continues to welcome collaborations that enrich the academic environment and offer students tangible exposure, preparing them to make a meaningful impact in the creative industries.
