LPU Celebrated International Women’s Day Honouring Women’s Strength and Wellbeing
Health awareness, recognition of inspiring women, and a Pink Walk for breast cancer awareness marked International Women’s Day at LPU.
Jalandhar; March 9, 2026: International Women’s Day at Lovely Professional University unfolded through conversations, awareness initiatives, and community engagement that placed women’s wellbeing at the centre of the celebration. By bringing together experts, educators, and students, the university created an environment that encouraged dialogue on health, empowerment, and the evolving role of women in today’s world.
The session was organised for women faculty members and focused on creating awareness around women’s health and emotional wellbeing. A panel discussion formed the highlight of the programme, featuring Dr. Davinder Kaur Singh, a senior gynecologist at Gee Bee Hospital, Phagwara, who has been practising since 1992. She shared important insights on menstrual health, anemia, cervical cancer prevention, and the importance of regular health check-ups, emphasizing how early awareness and preventive care can play a crucial role in improving women’s long-term health outcomes. Also introduced the Femora AI app with women’s which is a student startup developed at LPU that works as an AI-powered women’s wellness platform designed to help women better understand their health and bodies.
The discussion also featured Kanika Luthra, a psychology professional with six years of experience in hospital settings. Holding a Master’s degree in Psychology and certification in Psychological First Aid from the Canadian Red Cross, she spoke about stress management, emotional wellbeing, and the importance of mental health support for working women balancing professional and personal responsibilities. The session encouraged open conversations around both physical and psychological health, enabling participants to exchange experiences and gain practical insights for maintaining balance in their daily lives.
The occasion further featured the International Women’s Day programme titled “Iconic Women 2026”, organised in collaboration with the Jalandhar Management Association (JMA). On the occasion of celebrating the strength and achievements of women, the event honoured several inspiring women for their remarkable contributions and accomplishments in their respective fields. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence made them truly deserving of the recognition.
Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, shared that women today continue to shape families, workplaces, and communities through their resilience, leadership, and compassion. Dr. Mittal remarked that while pursuing their many responsibilities and aspirations, it is equally important for women to remain mindful of their overall wellbeing and personal growth. Dr. Mittal added that when women feel empowered, supported, and confident in their journeys, they create stronger, more progressive communities around them.
On the occasion, women at the university also enthusiastically participated in a range of sports and fitness activities organised under the spirit of the Asmita initiative supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Fit India and My bharat, which promotes greater participation of women in sports and physical wellbeing. The activities encouraged students and staff to embrace an active lifestyle while celebrating confidence, strength, and teamwork. Kulwinder Singh, District Sports Officer, also addressed the participants and encouraged young athletes to pursue sports with dedication and discipline, noting that grassroots competitions serve as an important foundation for identifying and nurturing future sporting talent. Other distinguished guests present on the occasion included Gagandeep Kaur, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat Kapurthala; Pardeep, Football Coach, Lakhwinder Singh, Past Champion Athlete (Fit India); and Anik Raheja, Fit India Ambassador.
In another initiative aligned with the spirit of the occasion, LPU organised a special awareness activity titled “Pink Walk for Hope” to spread awareness about breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection and health awareness among women. The “Pink Walk for Hope” shared a strong message of unity and optimism. As participants walked together dressed in pink, the initiative symbolized solidarity and the collective commitment to raising awareness for a healthier future.
