LOCAL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT APPOINTS OFFICERS IN CHARGE OF 4 MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS & 28 MUNICIPAL COUNCILS/NAGAR PANCHYATS

It is in keeping with this progress centric ideology that the Local Government Department has today appointed officers in charge of 4 Municipal Corporations and 28 Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats whose term has expired recently."

Disclosing this here today at Municipal Bhawan during an interaction with the mediapersons, the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Mr.Navjot Singh Sidhu said that the main focus of the department is not to let the development works hampered till the MC elections which would most probably be held by the year end. He also batted for adopting innovative methodologies such as harnessing the Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) to use their water for the irrigational purposes. The minister further said that the vision depicting initial 2 year roadmap of the progress oriented works would also be outlined soon.

As per the list of the appointed officers, the charge of Municipal Corporation Patiala has been entrusted to the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Patiala while the charge of Municipal Corporations in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar have been given to the Commissioners of the respective Municipal Corporations.

Not only this but the charge of Bagha Purana Municipal Council (MC)/ Nagar Panchayat has been entrusted to SDM Bagha Purana, Maloud MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Payal, Handiaya MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Barnala, Bhikhi MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Mansa, Shahkot MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Shahkot, Sahnewal MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Ludhiana (East), Mullanpur Dakha MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Ludhiana (West), Goraya MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Phillaur, Raja Sansi MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Ajnala, Balachaur MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Balachaur, Bhogpur MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Jalandhar-2, Cheema MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Sunam, Dirba MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Sunam, Khanauri MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Moonak, Bariwala MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moonak MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Moonak, Makhu & Mallanwala Khas MC/Nagar Panchayats to SDM Zira, Amloh MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Amloh, Ghagga MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Patran, Dharamkot MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Dharamkot, Mahilpur MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Garhshankar, Machhiwara MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Samrala, Khemkaran MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Tarn Taran, Talwandi Sabo MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Talwandi Sabo, Begowal MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Bhulath, Dhilwan MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Kapurthala and Bhulath MC/Nagar Panchayat to SDM Bhulath.

As per newly chalked out formula, the wards in Municipal Corporation Amritsar have been increased to 85, Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, Patiala and Ludhiana have been increased to 80, 60 and 95 respectively. On the Occasion, Mr. Pargat Singh, MLA, Dr. Amar Singh, Advisor, Local Government and Mr. Satish Chandra, Additional Chief Secretary were also present.
