Mohali: A 78-year-old patient, a known case of carcinoma esophagus with metastatic disease was successfully treated using stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for a brain metastasis.
During systemic therapy treatment, the patient developed symptoms of headache, following which an MRI of the brain revealed a single metastatic lesion in the right cerebellar region. The patient was referred to the radiation oncology department and planned for single-fraction SRS. The treatment was well tolerated, and the patient was discharged shortly thereafter in stable condition.
SRS is an advanced, non-invasive radiation technique that enables the delivery of high-dose radiation in a single session to targeted brain lesions, replacing the conventional approach of multiple sessions spread over several days. The technique also allows for the safe treatment of up to five brain lesions in a single session, significantly reducing treatment time while preserving surrounding healthy brain tissue.
This landmark procedure was led by Dr. Parneet Singh, senior consultant–radiation oncology along with the radiation oncology team, Dr. Priyanshu Chaudhary, and fellow consultants.
Anurag Yadav, CEO-Livasa Hospitals said, “The successful introduction of SRS at Livasa Hospital Mohali reflects the group’s commitment to clinical excellence and innovation. We are continuing to invest in advanced technologies and expert clinical teams to ensure patients receive world-class cancer care closer to home.”
Dr. Jatinder Arora, senior VP– hospital operations said that with the successful delivery of its first SRS procedure, Livasa Mohali further solidifies its role as a centre of excellence in Radiation Oncology.
