Lakkar Rail Over Bridge (ROB) Project Inaugurated

Ludhiana, April 25, 2015: Providing a much needed and easier access from the city’s older areas with newly developed ones, the Lakkar Rail Over Bridge (ROB) project was inaugurated today. This 933.162-meter long ROB has been constructed with a cost of Rs 50.82 crore. The Y-shaped bridge, that has been constructed in place of 105-year-old Lakkar Bridge, will have one portion near Raikhy Cinema Chowk, while the other one will end in front of the Bhadaur House area. This bridge will provide the residents of the old city easier access to the newly developed areas.

This ROB was inaugurated by Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal and he was accompanied by Punjab Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria, MLA’s Manpreet Singh Ayali, Darshan Singh Shivalik, Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Punjab Planning Board vice chairman Prof Rajinder Bhandari, senior Akali leader Madan Lal Bagga, BJP district president Parveen Bansal, several councilors besides others.

While speaking on the occasion, Charanjit Singh Atwal said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government in the state is always committed for development. He said that this particular project is a result of this commitment. He said with the construction of this ROB, the traffic congestion on Jagraon Bridge and Domoria Bridge would reduce considerably.

Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said that both Lakkar ROB and Elevated Road projects were a result of development oriented policies of SAD-BJP government. He said that this is one of the most prestigious and important projects of the city and will help the commuters in a big way. He said that with the opening of this ROB, the traffic congestion on its nearby roads would also decrease.

Punjab Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon congratulated the Ludhiana MC for dedicating this project to the city residents. He said that the motto of Punjab government is overall development of the city as well as other cities of the state. He said that CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal had shown personal interest in this project.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included MC Commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal, Additional Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, OSD to Irrigation Minister Sehajpreet Singh Mangat, deputy mayor RD Sharma, councillors Tanvir Singh Dhaliwal, Narinder Singh Malhi, Gurdeep Singh Neetu, Inder Aggarwal, besides several others.
