The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kapurthala, on February 2, 2024, was organized under the leadership of DrGPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, Along with the presence of Dr Gulzar Singh Sanghera, Director, RRS, Kapurthala, the SAC meeting witnessed active participation from district officials, progressive farmers, farm-women, and NABARD representatives.

Ludhiana, February 2, 2024: The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kapurthala, on February 2, 2024, was organized under the leadership of DrGPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, Along with the presence of Dr Gulzar Singh Sanghera, Director, RRS, Kapurthala, the SAC meeting witnessed active participation from district officials, progressive farmers, farm-women, and NABARD representatives.

Dr GPS Sodhi encouraged collaboration among various allied departments and farmers to enrich the annual action plan. He emphasized the significance of training and awareness programs on income-generating resources, stressing activities for enhancing soil fertility. The directive for KVK scientists to extend their reach to remote villages was underscored, ensuring the dissemination of farmer-friendly technologies.

Dr Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Kapurthala, commenced the meeting by welcoming SAC members and presenting a comprehensive action-taken report from the previous year. Dr Bindu, Professor of Agricultural Engineering, presented the proposed action plan for 2024-25, highlighting a farmer-centric approach.

Throughout the session, SAC members engaged in fruitful discussions, offering valuable suggestions to enhance KVK's effectiveness. Farmers lauded the KVK for quality seed potatoes and urged an increase in the area under potato seed production. Suggestions were made for more demonstrations on trichocards in sugarcane as an integral component of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Notable achievements from 2023-24 were highlighted, including a reduction in fire incidents by 18% through awareness camps and demonstrations under the Crop Residue Management (CRM) project. Project learning platforms were developed on KVK and farmer fields to enhance the effectiveness of different residue management techniques.

Dr Amandeep Kaur, Associate Professor (Horticulture), expressed gratitude in the concluding vote of thanks. The meeting concluded with dignitaries visiting demonstration units and the technology park at the KVK farm, reinforcing the commitment to advancing agricultural practices.
