KMV organises webinar on sustainable fashion and national level online competitions 

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a webinar on Sustainable Fashion-A prerequisite during COVID-19 and an Online National level Inter College/ Collegiate competition on the same theme to celebrate World Earth Day. Both of these activities were organised by the PG Department of Fashion Designing. 
The Resource Person for the Webinar was Prof. Deepak John Mathew, Head, Department of Design,  IIT Hyderabad. The erudite and learned speaker gave a meaningful presentation on this pertinent topic in a simple yet effective manner. He gave suitable answers to all queries which were posted by the online audience. The webinar was a huge success as it was able to garner 14,000 eyeballs on Facebook. 
A series of competitions were also held under different categories like Upcycling Old T-shirts, Creation of Wall  Decorations using Accessories Bits and pieces, Best-out-of-Waste Jewellery, best out of waste, Innovative Mask Making using Pre/Post-Consumer Textile Waste, Reinventing old garments to new Avatars.  Around 200 entries from different schools and colleges of India were received. The results of the competition are Daljeet Kaur (SDAM College, Dinanagar) won first prize in Upcycling old T-shirts, Dipinder Kaur( Govt Home Science College, sector- 10, Chandigarh) won first prize in creation of wall decoration using accessories bits and pieces, Harleen Kaur (Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar) won first prize in Best out of waste, Amanpreet Kaur(Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar) won first prize in Best out of waste jewellery, Harpreet Kaur (KMV, Jalandhar) won first prize in Innovative mask making using Pre/post-consumer textile waste, Amandeep Saini (Government Home Science College, sector-10, Chandigarh) won first prize in Reinventing old garments to new avatars.Many consolation prices were also given to the students. The esteemed judges were- Dr. Kanwaljit Brar ( Professor, Dept. of Apparel & Textile Science, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.),Dr. Sangeeta Deewan( Head, PG Dept. of clothing & textiles, Govt.Home Science College, Chandigarh.),Prabhdip Brar( Ph.D.,Chairperson, UIFT & Vocational Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh.),Dr. Rita Kant( Assistant Professor, UIFT & Vocational Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh.), Dr. Anu H. Gupta (Assistant Professor, UIFT & Vocational Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Anuj Lalwani (Celebrity Fashion Stylist & Designer),Punit Arora (Managing Director in the Company “Unique International”),Saurabh Gupta, Owner & Head Designer, the Doors of Elegance. It is important to mention that the PG Department of Fashion Designing of KMV has been Ranked No. 1 in India by India Today Ranking, 2019 in ‘ Best Value for Money Category’ and ‘Lowest Tuition Fee Category’. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that this type of initiative is very important as it creates a sense of awareness among the people to respect the natural resources of our Mother Earth and to practice Sustainable Development so that our upcoming generations should not be devoid from bounties of the nature. 
Principal lauded the efforts of Ms. Harpreet Kaur (HOD, PG Department of Fashion Designing), Ms.Amarjot kaur, Ms. Tarandeep Kaur, Dr. Simerjeet Kaur and the hard working team of faculty members of P.G department of Fashion Designing for this enterprising and successful event.
